Sustainable development

WE APPROACH SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AS A CONSTANT SEARCH FOR BETTER WAYS

FOR A MORE LIFE
JUST

TO PRESERVE THE CAPACITY OF FUTURE GENERATIONS
TO MEET THEIR NEEDS.

In the 1990s, this definition of sustainable development emerged:   "Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

But this definition doesn't tell us what to do. Each of us must ask ourselves, is there a better way? A fairer way, one that has less impact on the environment?

In Quebec we have a law on sustainable development that helps us in this reflection to move to action.

"What are my sustainable practices today?"
"How can I improve tomorrow?"

At Écogîtes we have committed to this vision of sustainable development and every year we review our plan and adopt better methods.

The three chalets, two yurts, and the solar building were constructed between 2004 and 2007: it was the first eco-lodge in Canada built according to the principles of sustainable development. A magnificent project, left unfinished, then taken over by the current owner, Pierre Chevrier, in 2013.

The energy-efficient building houses a renewable energy system comprising 27 solar panels, 2 wind turbines, a gel battery bank, and a 4000-watt power inverter. This allows us to power all the units.

You simply need to manage your consumption.

We are not connected to the city's water system. Our water comes directly from the lake.

The toilets are dry toilets, which are located in each chalet with an odor removal system and ecological treatment.

Our goal: For every visitor to feel eco-responsible!

At Écogîtes, we recycle and compost. The environment is our priority!
